Wow, what a scorcher of a day. The image was different from last year as no wipers or raincoats were required, only sunscreen, hats and buckets of water.
Met up at Burger King at the end of the north western motorway for an 8.15 am start to convoy to the show. Next year maybe we need to rethink the meeting point as BK didn’t open till 8am & even their coffee wasn’t up to our standards!
After all our new year greetings, quick spruce up of missed polish, looking over a new mini added to the fleet, Xmas story of a treasured hat with club badges is now sitting somewhere under 30 feet of water in one of the lakes around Rotorua. There’s a $50 reward for its return.
Our convoy crawled off slowly towards Kumeu & at times was at a stand still. One of our mini members decided to walk up to talk to another, only to be accosted by the law for “Causing a Traffic Hazard”, just a warning but as he walked past many cars back along the centre line to his own car, the law followed with flashing lights & his ticket book at the ready just as Chris climbed into his car.
A little later as we drove along the fence line of the show ground, many campers enjoying the activities while having their breakfast. One group got vocal with the comment “Buy a real Car”. But got more than they bargained for as the quick reply was “Go on a Diet”.
Based in the lower paddock, our club tent looked amazing with our 12 minis surrounding it, some with bonnets up or removed, info sheets on display and even chairs for any weary followers to sit, talk, ask questions or just get some sunshade.
After a quick discussion on dismantle timing, many moved off to the swap meet were some bargains were found. Sharp eyes spying out each requirement & hopefully getting to them first before any other members, but if that happened, more were founded a couple of rows over, so smiles all round.
While storing the purchased items in their boots, talk of locations with directions to find those lost items of interest was shared as they moved off for another look.
With the blue sky full of planes doing acrobatic turns, skydivers landing, even the promotion girls driving around got cooled down by a gold roadster to the amusement of all.
Great day had by all with bargains to boot & some planning to meet up again at our next event our Dawn breaker., some of these mini’s were last seen, still in convoy around the backblocks of the west, weaving their way home.
